    Thrifting Haul October 2012

I went to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul thrift store in Long Beach and it was amazing. I bought 8 items for under $15. If you’re curious about the location, check out its yelp page here.

Anywho, this is what I got.

Halloween Makeup: Andy Warhol Marilyn Monroe Inspired Look

So I wanted to do a Halloween makeup video just because I see a lot of them pop up in my video feed (namely AprilAthena7). I am definitely not a makeup artist but wanted to do something fun and whimsical but not the standard ghost or witch. I did remember seeing an outstanding video by Emma Pickle’s on a Pop Art look (Roy Lichtenstein inspired). I also had bought a Monroe wig from Out of the Closet while thrifting one day. So the look I created was also Pop Art inspired but from the other mega popular pop-artist, Andy Warhol. So the look I created was my take on Andy Warhol’s Marilyn Monroe. Keep in mind, Dave La Chapelle also has photographed his rendition of the Warhol Monroe (I forget who the makeup artist is) but I tried my best to not copy that look.

    October Empties!

Empties blog posts/videos are about products that a person has used up since the last empties post. I love watching and reading empties posts just because I feel like the reviews are really thought through. I also love seeing products being finished. It gives me a sense of accomplishment to finish a product. I get so fickle at times and may have a dozen or so different types of a particular item (i.e. shampoo, lotion, eyeliner, etc.). Sometimes I feel like I have more than need and have more than I can possibly finish in a reasonable amount of time. But before I lead you on a tangent, let’s just get on with what I finished for my first empties video/post.

Autumn 2012 Little Black Dress Upcycle

I bought this velveteen dress from the Salvation army for $3.50 (it was originally $7 but discounted by 50%). What attracted me to it initially was the texture of the fabric since I knew that texture was essential to styling your monochrome outfits for the upcoming autumn and winter. The dress very 90’s in style; it had a baby doll type of drape to it.

    Upcycling a coat for Grandma

NOTE: I noticed I had this post lingering in my archives as a draft. So today I decided to publish it.

This past April, my grandma started going to adult daycare. It was cold that month so they suggested that she have bring a winter coat to bring with her. My aunt passed the request to my dad who then passed on the request to me since he knew I was being a thrifty shopper. I had been reporting my deals and findings during my thrift shopping adventures.
